Brazil Lottery Games
Lottery games have a rich history in Brazil, stretching back to 1962 when the Federal Lottery was first launched.
Today, there are more than 10 lottery games played across Brazil, with opportunities to enter a draw on every day of the week besides Sunday. Due to the number of games spread out across the week and the mostly long odds of winning, rollovers and fast growing jackpots are a frequent occurrence; however, most Brazilian lotteries don't have secondary games or chances to win prizes beyond the main draw.
All lottery games in Brazil are operated by Caixa Econômica Federal.
Dia de Sorte
Launched in 2018, Dia de Sorte is Brazil's newest lottery. This is a unique game in which players choose numbers between 1 and 31, representing the days of the month, plus a number between 1 and 12, representing the month of the year. Dia de Sorte was launched to allow Brazilians to bet on specific dates, with many people choosing numbers based on these.
Dia de Sorte draws take place on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings at 20:00 local time.
Dupla Sena
Launched in 2001, Dupla Sena is the only Brazilian lottery game that gives players two entries for the price of one ticket, and even though players only use one set of numbers per entry; two entries are awarded because of its two draws. The jackpots for both draws are the same, but with the second draw having slightly lower value secondary prizes.
Dupla Sena draws take place on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings at 20:00 local time.
Federal Lottery
Federal Lottery is Brazil's oldest lottery game and the only one that uses a raffle format instead of a traditional lottery-type draw. Although this lottery has some of the smallest prizes on offer, the draw's format means there are guaranteed winners every time.
Federal Lottery draws take place on Wednesday and Saturday evenings.
Lotofacil
Launched in 2003, Lotofacil is the only Brazilian lottery not to have a fixed minimum jackpot, although Lotofacil ticket sales typically mean the jackpot starts at around BRL 1.5 million, and with players needing to choose 15 numbers from a selection of 25, the odds of winning a prize are relatively favourable.
Lotofacil draws take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 20:00 local time.
LotoMania
Launched in 1999, LotoMania is hugely popular across Brazil thanks to its format. LotoMania gives players 100 numbers to choose from, with 50 needed to play. Participants only need to match 20 numbers to win the jackpot, or by matching no numbers at all!
LotoMania draws are held on Tuesday and Friday evenings at 20:00 local time.
Mega Sena
Launched in 1996, Mega Sena is best known for its New Year's Eve special draw called Mega de Virada in which players can win a "must be won" jackpot of at least BRL 300 million! The odds of winning Mega Sena are very long, with rollovers and huge jackpots frequently occurring throughout the year.
Mega Sena draws take place on Wednesday and Friday afternoons at 14:00 local time.
Quina
Quina is another lottery that is famous for its special draws, such as the Quina de São João Super Draw held every year in June. As with Mega Sena, Quina's most lucrative jackpots come from its special draws, but due to the long winning odds and format, rollovers and huge jackpot prizes are a regular occurrence.
Quina is played every evening of the week except for Sunday, with draws held at 20:00 local time.
TimeMania
Launched in 2008, TimeMania is a traditional lottery game that requires players to choose 10 numbers from a selection of 80. As with LotoMania, it is not necessary to match all numbers to win the jackpot, with just seven being required to take home the top prize. TimeMania is another game that has frequent rollovers, and despite having the lowest starting jackpot, there have been some huge multi-million Brazilian Real wins.
TimeMania draws take place on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings at 20:00 local time.
