Vikinglotto

Vikinglotto is a transnational lottery game played by nine participating countries. In addition to Estonia, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Slovenia also participate in Vikinglotto.

In Estonia, Vikinglotto tickets cost €1 and are on sale until 19:00 local time on the day of the draw. Ticket sales resume immediately after the draw has taken place.

Vikinglotto draws take place once a week on Wednesday evenings at 21:00 local time.

To enter Vikinglotto, choose six numbers between 1 and 48, plus an additional number known locally as the Viking number between 1 and 8. Players can also choose randomly generated Quick Pick numbers.

Players can also use the System feature for the selection of additional numbers entered into the draw as multiple combinations.

Jackpot

The minimum Vikinglotto jackpot is €3 million.

While Vikinglotto has no rollover cap, there is a jackpot cap of €35 million.

If no-one matches all six numbers and the Viking number when the jackpot reaches €35 million, the jackpot rolls down to the next prize tier.

The highest Vikinglotto jackpots:

  • €33.2 million on April 11, 2018.
  • €24.5 million on May 15, 2015.
  • €21.3 million on January 18, 2012.

Odds and Prizes

The odds of winning the Vikinglotto jackpot are 1 in 98,172,096.

These are long odds for a lottery jackpot but are still better than those offered by Euromillions or the US Powerball lotteries.

Players have plenty of opportunities to win at Vikinglotto, with eight prize tiers in total.

Payout and Taxes

Vikinglotto winnings are paid out as lump sums only.

Taxes are not levied on lottery winnings; however, players who enter Vikinglotto from abroad should check local tax laws to find out if winnings need to be declared at home.

Who Can Play Vikinglotto

Players must be at least 16 years of age to play Vikinglotto.

Vikinglotto tickets are on sale from authorized retailers, with the additional option of playing online via the official website.

Players outside of participating Vikinglotto countries can also play online via selected lottery agent websites.

Some participating countries have an additional "Joker" game, which takes place before the Vikinglotto draw. Participation in the Vikinglotto Joker game is also available for some online players.

History of Vikinglotto
