Daily Lotto

Among several popular lottery games played in South Africa, Daily Lotto is the only daily draw, with Christmas Day the only day when no draw takes place at all.

Daily Lotto draws take place every evening at 21:00 local time. Ticket sales cease at 20:30 local time and resume once the result has been published.

A Daily Lotto ticket costs ZAR 3.00. To play, choose five numbers between 1 and 36, or go for a Quick Pick to play with randomly generated numbers.

Also, players can use the Advance Play option to buy tickets for multiple future draws.

Daily Lotto does not have any secondary draws or cash prizes alongside the main draw.

Jackpot

Daily Lotto does not have a minimum guaranteed jackpot, which is instead determined by the number of tickets sold; however, lottery operator, Ithuba, occasionally holds special draws that have a minimum guaranteed jackpot or a higher overall prize pool.

The Daily Lotto jackpot does not roll over, but does roll down to secondary prize tiers.

Odds and Prizes

The odds of winning the Daily Lotto jackpot are 1 in 376,992.

These are fantastic odds for a lottery game, only tempered by the low jackpot, which thanks to the roll down, affords decent opportunities to win prizes at secondary tiers.

Daily Lotto players can win prizes at four different tiers, with overall odds of 1 in 7.6 of winning a prize.

Prize category Numbers Matched Winning Odds Winning Odds %
1 5 1 in 376,992 0.0003
2 4 1 in 2,432 0.04
3 3 1 in 81 1.23
4 2 1 in 8.4 11.9

Payout and Taxes

Players have up to 180 days to claim Daily Lotto prizes.

Lottery prizes in South Africa are not subject to tax, with jackpots being paid out as lump sums only.

Who Can Play Daily Lotto?

Players must be at least 18 years of age to play lottery games in South Africa.

Players based in South Africa can buy Daily Lotto tickets online via the official lottery app or from authorized lottery retailers across the country.

Daily Lotto entry is not currently available to players outside of South Africa, neither via the official website or through other Lottery Agent websites.

History of Daily Lotto

Lottery games began in South Africa in 2000, with the daily lottery first suggested in October 2002, but initially rejected by the Trade and Industry Ministry back in March 2003.

Several new lottery games would be launched before Daily Lotto came into fruition, with the first draw taking place on March 10, 2019.
