Payout and Taxes

California Lottery prize winners have 180 days to claim their winnings.

SuperLotto Plus jackpot winnings can be paid out as a lump sum or as graduated annual payments. Annual payments are the default payment option, with winners notifying the California Lottery within 60 days of winning the jackpot if they wish to receive cash instead. Players choosing annual payments will have their winnings paid out over 30 years.

Californian residents are not subject to direct taxation for SuperLotto Plus winnings; however, 24% to 30% of winning jackpots can be withheld by the state as residents must declare lottery winnings as income.

SuperLotto Plus winners who do not reside in California should check local tax laws and whether they need to declare their winnings.
